Watch on YouTube: Bethanie Mattek-Sands vs. CoCo Vandeweghe, 2015 US Open women's singles second round
The 2015 US Open women's singles tournament is best remembered for its all-Italian final between surprise champion Flavia Pennetta and Roberta Vinci, who shocked Serena Williams in the semis to stop her bid for the calendar-year Grand Slam.
But despite the Italian flavor in the title match, there were several intriguing all-American matches in '15. There was the three-set quarterfinal between the Williams sisters, a Round-of-16 showdown between No. 19 seed Madison Keys and Serena, and even a preview of the 2017 semifinals, when CoCo Vandeweghe and Sloane Stephens squared off in the opening round. Vandeweghe won that match against the No. 29-seeded Stephens, setting up a second-round meeting with wild card Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who took out qualifier Kateryna Kozlova in her first-round match.
That all-American match was dominated by Mattek-Sands, who took that form into her third-round match against Serena, where she took the opening set and came within two games of victory before falling in three.
The complete Mattek-Sands vs. Vandweghe second-round showdown, along with scores of other great content, is now available to watch on the USTA YouTube channel, or below.
