Full Match Video: Keys vs. Riske, 2016 first round

Arthur Kapetanakis | March 31, 2020

With the current suspension of the ATP and WTA Tours, we are opening up our US Open vault to bring you full match videos of classic encounters through the years in New York.

Watch on YouTube: Madison Keys vs. Alison Riske, 2016 US Open - Round 1

In the latest-ending women's match in US Open history, Madison Keys and Alison Riske battled past midnight until 1:48 a.m. After two hours, 25 minutes, it was the No. 8 seed Keys—already in the WTA's Top 10 at just 21—still standing in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

The drama peaked at 5-all in a second-set tiebreak that was do-or-die for Keys. Riske, who was seeking to end a personal eight-match losing streak in Grand Slams, led by a set and a break, and had her chances in the breaker before her compatriot began to find top form.

“I’m feeling pretty good,” Keys said on court after the match. “I just looked up, and it’s almost 2 a.m., so who wants to go party?”

The American, who had reached the Australian Open semis and the Wimbledon quarters in 2015, would go on to advance to the 2016 US Open Round of 16. That result made for a unique statistic, with a consistent Keys recording exactly three wins at each of the four majors on the year.

The complete all-American, opening-round match from 2016 is now available to watch on our USTA YouTube channel and below.
