With the current suspension of the ATP and WTA Tours, we are opening up our US Open vault to bring you full match videos of classic encounters through the years in New York.

Watch on YouTube: Todd Martin vs. Robby Ginepri, 2003 US Open men's singles third round

This third-round match between Americans at opposite ends of their careers ended up being the final US Open victory for 1999 finalist Todd Martin. His opponent in this 2003 encounter was a 20-year-old Robby Ginepri, who was playing in his third US Open men's singles main draw, compared to 14 at the time for Martin.

The veteran reached the final four or better in New York in 1994, 1999 and 2000, racking up a total of 33 career wins at what was his most successful Slam. He also reached the 1994 Australian Open final, as well as a pair of semifinals at Wimbledon in '94 and '96. All told, he reached the quarterfinals or better 10 times at the Grand Slam singles level.

A 37-year-old Martin needed four sets to reach the fourth round with a win against Ginepri. He would fall in five sets to eventual finalist Juan Carlos Ferrero in the Round of 16. One year later, Martin ended his career at the 2004 US Open with a four-set loss to "the magician," Fabrice Santoro. He ended his career with eight ATP singles titles and a career-high ranking of No. 4.

Ginepri rose as high as No. 15 in 2005, on the back of a US Open semifinal run. That performance was his career best at a Slam, the only time he advanced beyond the fourth round in 36 main-draw attempts. He retired in 2015 and, soon after, started his Ginepri Performance Tennis Academy in Marietta, Ga. He was named a Team USA Davis Cup coach in 2018 and was also part of Frances Tiafoe's coaching team through the 2018 season.
