Full US Open Match Video: Venus vs. Davenport, 2000 final

With the current suspension of the ATP and WTA Tours, we are opening up our US Open vault to bring you full match videos of classic encounters through the years in New York.

Watch on YouTube: Venus Williams vs. Lindsay Davenport, 2000 US Open women's singles final

Playing in her fourth US Open, Venus Wiliams had never been knocked out before the final four in New York. The American reached the final in her 1997 debut (l. to Martina Hingis), and found herself back in the championship match in the year 2000.

The No. 3 seed got past Hingis in the 2000 semis, and faced former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport in her bid for her first US Open crown. Davenport, whose 98 total weeks as the WTA's No. 1 player are the eighth most of all-time, had dropped just one set on her path to the final—to a 17-year-old Kim Clijsters in Round 2.

Williams had already broken through on the biggest stages in 2000, winning her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon and backing it up with a pair of gold medals at the Sydney Olympics (singles and doubles, with sister Serena).

The all-American US Open final was a rematch of the 2000 Wimbledon finale, where Williams topped Davenport in straights. It would be the same result in New York, as Williams won the first of two consecutive US Open titles.
