Juniors finish group 3-0, while men, quads play penultimate 2024 World Team Cup matches

As Friday at the BNP Paribas World Team Cup progressed, the weekend's final picture became clearer for the U.S. men, junior and quad teams.

By day's end, the pros had played their penultimate matches for this year's competition while the juniors finished off round-robin play. 

In the first match for both teams out of group play, the U.S. men lost to Chile, 2-1, while the quad team defeated Japan by the same score.  Competing this week in his 22nd World Team Cup, former world No. 1 David Wagner was the architect of the quad victory: With the team trailing 1-0, he defeated Kei Usami 6-1, 6-4 to send the tie to doubles, and then partnered Andrew Bogdanov (who hadn't competed in the round-robin portion of the competition) for a 6-3, 6-0 triumph.

The results in the positional play-off ensure that the quads will finish no worse than sixth, while the men will finish in seventh or eighth.

Meanwhile, the U.S. juniors' pursuit of a medal is still alive after they completed round-robin play with a perfect 3-0 record. The team scored a 3-0 victory against the Netherlands in its final group stage match, putting their record in the competition so far at 9-0 in matches played. 

After Charlie Cooper and Tomas Majetic helped give the U.S. a cushion in its group by leading the team to victory against Great Britain and Australia, Sabina Czauz and Max Wong took up the baton to help the team post its undefeated record.

Czauz, competing in her first World Team Cup, bounced back from a first-set bagel to defeat Pieke ten Berge 0-6, 7-5, 6-4 in the opening singles match, before Wong defeated Marijn Bruinooge 7-5, 6-4 to seal the victory. 

The pair completed the sweep with a 6-1, 6-0 win over ten Berge and Lotte Marloes Duijs in doubles.
