Serena to have  building named in her honor

Serena Williams achieved global icon status long ago, with her own signature shoes and apparel, and a variety of endorsements spanning racquets to sports drinks and even mattresses.

 

Now, she’s even getting a building named after her.

 

As part of the expansion of its campus in Beaverton, Ore., Nike plans to construct four new buildings. The biggest of those, covering more than 1 million square feet – making it the largest facility on the Nike grounds – will be named for the 23-time Grand Slam singles champion. It is expected to open in 2019.

 

The other buildings include one named for two-time Olympic gold medal-winning runner Sebastian Coe, a training facility named after Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, and a parking garage that Nike said will “celebrate the sporting heritage of New York City.”
