Pegula, Gauff, Navarro, Collins make U.S. history in WTA's Top 10

One week after the 2024 US Open, America is still at the center of the tennis world. This week's WTA singles rankings feature four U.S. women in the Top 10 for the first time since 2005.

US Open finalist and world No. 3 Jessica Pegula leads that historic foursome, joined by No. 6 Coco Gauff, No. 8 Emma Navarro and No. 10 Danielle Collins. Pegula and Collins will bid to make more American tennis history in November at the Billie Jean King Cup Final 8, having been named Monday to the U.S. squad for the knockout finale at the World Cup of Tennis.  

The last time four Americans ranked inside the Top 10 was the week of March 21, 2005, when world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport—the current U.S. Billie Jean King Cup captain—was followed by No. 4 Serena Williams, No. 9 Venus Williams and No. 10 Jennifer Capriati.

The 30-year-old Pegula matched her career-high ranking from October 2022 behind her run to the US Open final, which immediately followed a title in Montreal and a runner-up finish in Cincinnati at the WTA 1000 level.

The Buffalo native reached six Grand Slam quarterfinals from 2021-23 and finally advanced beyond that stage at her home major by beating world No. 1 Iga Swiatek. Seeded sixth in New York, Pegula then beat returning semifinalist Karolina Muchova to advance to her first Grand Slam singles final. She ultimately finished runner-up after a high-quality final against Aryna Sabalenka.

Gauff reached the US Open fourth round as defending champion before being knocked out in three sets by Navarro. The 20-year-old reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 2 this January and climbed to doubles No. 1 in 2022. She has been a fixture in the WTA's singles Top 10 since breaking through into that elite group in September 2022.
