Taylor Fritz to face Jannik Sinner in the final of the 2024 ATP Finals

On Saturday, Taylor Fritz defeated world No. 2 Alexander Zverev, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3), in the semifinals of the 2024 Nitto ATP Finals to set up a rematch of the 2024 US Open final against Jannik Sinner for the biggest title on tour. The runner-up is now the first American man to fight for the chance to lift the trophy at the year-end tournament since James Blake in 2006.

Sinner won his semifinal match against Casper Ruud, 6-1, 6-2, continuing his perfect record at this year’s tour finals. In the group stage, he bested Fritz, Daniil Medvedev and Alex de Minaur without dropping a set, while the American reached the knockout stage by having the next-best record in the Ilie Nastase group, defeating Medvedev and de Minaur.

This will be the third time this year that Fritz and Sinner will face off, after the US Open and their meeting in the group stage, a match that the year-end No. 1 won in 80 minutes, 6-4, 6-4. It’s also the second consecutive time the Italian is in the title match of the ATP Finals—he lost to Novak Djokovic last year, after defeating the Serb in group play.

Sinner is feeling good going into the final, after a fantastic year when he won two majors and finished the season as the top player on tour.

“It's a very similar position as I was in last year,” Sinner said in his post-match press conference. “I've grown in the past 12 months as a player. Sunday is going to be a very interesting day in any case. I'm happy again to be in this position. It's a very special occasion. Sundays in each tournament means that you had a great, great week.

"Hopefully I'm going to enjoy tomorrow and we see what's coming out. I'm happy to be in this position again.”

Fritz has also had a successful season, winning titles at Delray Beach and Eastbourne this year, becoming the first American man since Andy Roddick in 2009 to contest a major final. Come Monday, the US Open runner-up will rise to No. 4 in the rankings, a new career high, and will be the first American man to end the season inside the Top 5 since Blake in 2006.

"I trust my game and I trust my level,” Fritz said, according to atptour.com. “I don't feel anywhere near as uncomfortable in these situations anymore because I've been putting myself in these situations against the top guys at big events a lot lately... I'm really confident in my game."
