U.S. Davis Cup Team sweeps qualifier vs. Hungary
The United States Davis Cup Team completed a 4-0 sweep on the road against Hungary to advance to the competition's second qualifying round. Captain Bob Bryan's squad will next face Czechia in late September for a place in the 2026 Davis Cup Finals. That tie will take place in Czechia—after they defeated Sweden in their qualifying tie—at a site and on a surface to be announced.
Singles wins for Ethan Quinn and Tommy Paul staked the U.S. a 2-0 lead on Saturday in Hungary, before the doubles pair of Christian Harrison and Austin Krajicek clinched the tie on Sunday. Emilio Nava wrapped up the sweep with another singles win Sunday, ensuring all three U.S. Davis Cup rookies—Quinn, Harrison and Nava—earned wins on the trip.
"Whenever you play Davis Cup for the first time, it’s an important moment," Bryan said of his debutants. "It’s a moment that you’ll remember for the rest of your life."
Quinn arrived on the Davis Cup stage with a dramatic Saturday victory over top-ranked Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, saving four match points in a third-set tiebreak to give the U.S. a commanding 2-0 lead over the Hungarians in front of their home crowd and on their chosen surface.
Quinn, making his Davis Cup debut as a 21-year-old ranked No. 68, defeated the 46th-ranked veteran Marozsan, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(11), in a sensational second singles match played on the indoor clay court inside the Tatabányai Multifunkcionális Sportcsarnok.
Paul polished off Zsombor Piros, 7-6(3), 6-3, earlier in the afternoon to put the U.S. on the board.
Harrison and Krajicek put an exclamation point on the weekend's performance, clinching victory for the American team with an emphatic result over Fabian Marozsan and Zsombor Piros, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Harrison, coming off winning the 2026 Australian Open men's doubles title, earned his first Davis Cup win in his debut appearance, while Krajicek improves his Davis Cup doubles record to 9-2, including an undefeated 9-0 mark in live matches.
Emilio Nava logged a 6-2, 6-3 win over Matyas Fuele in the dead singles match to close out the weekend's play.
"I didn’t expect this result," Bryan said of the sweep. "This match could have gone either way. You saw how close the matches were. Obviously having Tommy join the team was a big boost. He was favored in that match against Piros, but he did a great job against Piros who really played great tennis.
"I think the key match to this whole weekend was the Quinn-Marozsan match. I don’t think we were favored in that match, but Ethan somehow pulled off an upset. He believed he could win, but that’s a really tough opponent, and I would have been very happy if the U.S. and Hungary were 1-1 after Day 1."
