Pro Circuit Round-up: Cressy sweeps Tulsa titles
Maxime Cressy, who won the NCAA doubles title as a UCLA Bruin in May, can now add a pair of USTA Pro Circuit crowns to his trophy case. Usue Arconada and Natasha Subhash were also singles champions last week, while a combined six Americans lifted doubles titles across four Pro Circuit events.
Cressy (pictured above), a Paris-born American, swept the singles and doubles titles at the ITF World Tennis Tour M25 event in Tulsa, Okla., collecting his third career singles title and doubles crown No. 12. In a UCLA vs. Florida battle in the singles championship, Cressy topped Sam Riffice, 6-3, 6-1, to end the rising junior’s nine-match (and 18-set) winning streak. The Gator won the M25 event in Wichita, Kan., last week.
Zeke Clark and Martin Redlicki were semifinalists in Tulsa, while Nick Chappell, Alex Sarkissian and John McNally reached the quarters. Cressy teamed with Portugal’s Bernardo Saraiva in the doubles event, topping Redlicki and Evan Zhu, 6-2, 3-6, [10-8], in the final.
Arconada claimed the ITF World Tennis Tour W25 title in Denver, topping Alexa Glatch, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, in an all-American final. Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the 20-year-old competes under the U.S. flag. She defeated compatriot Sophia Whittle in the semis on her way to her second ITF singles title of 2019.
Hayley Carter, who won the doubles title in Denver, also reached the singles quarterfinals at the event, along with Sanaz Marand and Vicky Duval. Carter and her doubles partner, Vladica Babic of Montenegro, topped the American duo of Gail Brodsky and Brynn Boren, 6-2, 6-3, in the final.
Subhash won another all-U.S. final at the W15 event in Orlando, Fla., topping Tori Kinard, 6-1, 6-2. Team USA supplied all eight Orlando women’s quarterfinalists, including semifinalists Karina Miller and Grace Min, and quarterfinalists Kimmi Hance, Connie Ma, Sofia Sewing and Eleana Yu.
The 16-year-old Zamarripa twins—Allura and Maribella—took the Orlando doubles crown, topping compatriots Hance and Ashlyn Krueger, 6-3, 6-1, in the final.
Trent Bryde and Tyler Zink were men’s doubles champs at the M15 event in Orlando, while semifinalist Strong Kirchheimer posted the best American singles result at the men's event. Vasil Kirkov, Aleksandar Kovacevic, Mwendwa Mbithi and Paul Oosterbaan all reached the quarters.
