Florida Junior Team Tennis Spring Season Report

February 03, 2021

Last year’s fall season was arguably lighter due to numerous facility and area play restrictions. However, as spring approaches, the Florida sun shines a little brighter as USTA Florida prepares for the upcoming spring 2021 season of Junior Team Tennis.

Although the 2021 USTA Junior Team Tennis National Championship is cancelled this year, USTA Florida does expect to host sectional events. In fact, a sectional event is currently being planned for the spring season in May at the Daytona Beach Florida Tennis Center.

“Things are looking up this year, now that we have a better understanding and lot of facilities have complied with our Safety Guidelines. We decided to open up 9 new areas and have 6 confirmed at this time,” says USTA Florida Junior Team Tennis Coordinator Liz Coates.

Also in the works are various ways of adding a little magic to upcoming seasons with possible ranking points being introduced. Liz adds, “Stay tuned- it’ll be fun!”

USTA Florida will continue to add Junior Team Tennis play opportunities to our event calendar and on our app, free to download from the App Story or Google Play.

As the season kicks off in mid-to-late February, leagues are available in the following areas:

Established in 1991, USTA Junior Team Tennis provides youth ages 6-18 with all of the health and social benefits of tennis in a coed, fun and competitive team environment — all while allowing participants to compete with and against individuals of similar ages and skill levels. Beginner, intermediate and advanced skill levels are all covered — with divisions from 8-and-under up to 18-and-under.

USTA Junior Team Tennis brings kids together in teams to play singles, doubles and mixed doubles against other beginner, intermediate or advanced teams. The programs promote social skills and important values, as well as foster cooperation, team play, and individual self-growth. JTT provides kids with a fun environment in which they learn that succeeding isn’t just about winning — it’s about how they play the game and respond to challenges.
