Highly Competitive Matches Headline Adult 18 & Over Mixed 6.0/7.0/8.0/9.0 Sectional Championships

Jaret Kappelman | September 12, 2023

While Coco Gauff was representing Florida tennis on the pro level at the US Open, local adult players were grinding through the heat at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona at the Adult 18 & Over Mixed Sectional Championships.

Mixed doubles are a fun way to play tennis as even some of Florida’s best pros, like Austin Krajicek enjoy playing this format of tennis. At the local level, a man and a woman team up with their rating adding up to their division’s (for example, two 3.0 players would pair up for the 6.0 draw) and being within 1.0 of one another.

This weekend’s competition was intense, with everyone channeling their best tennis. Everyone seemed extra motivated to showcase Florida tennis as many pro players were doing so at the final Grand Slam of the year.

All of the Championship matches were extremely close, with each of them being a 2-1 outcome.

In the 6.0, Alachua County came out on top, while Broward won in the 7.0 Mixed draw. Hillsborough and Broward faced off against one another in the 8.0 and 9.0, splitting those matches and each county finding a win.

The teams competing in the sectional represented what Florida tennis is all about, displaying sportsmanship and grit. Teams come together at the sectionals from across the state from public courts, clubs, and other recreational departments. USTA Florida is thrilled to have the winners showcasing the best of the state at Nationals later this fall.

Check out how the matches went down and if your county will be representing the state at the Adult 18 & Over Mixed National Championships!
