Inside Florida Tennis: Bobby Curtis Sectional Championships Format Changes for 2023

Jaret Kappelman | April 07, 2023

As the school year begins to wind down, junior tennis players have their eyes set on the rigorous summer tournament season. This time of the year is arguably the most important for these young athletes, as some of the best competitions take place throughout the summer.

USTA Florida’s most prestigious event, the Bobby Curtis Sectional Championships, is getting major format changes this year. In years past, the event would take place in one weekend, with eight different divisions taking place at once. In 2023, the event will take place across two separate weekends.

The Boys’ and Girls’ 12s and 14s divisions will take place on June 10 and run through June 14. The following week, June 17 to June 21, will be the dates for the Boys’ and Girls’ 16s and 18s. Both weekends will take place at the USTA National Campus, in Lake Nona.

Another format change coming to 2023 is having all competitors compete on clay courts. Previously, 16s and 18s would play on hard courts, but this year they will be moving over onto the clay.

Registration for the event is now open, with limited spots available. For 12s and 14s, it will remain open until May 28, while the 16s and 18s event signup will be open until June 4.

Last year’s Bobby Curtis Championship was thrilling with tons of matches going back and forth. You won’t want to miss this event and a chance to etch your name into USTA Florida History.
