Next Generation Dazzles at 2023 Junior Team Tennis Fall State Championship

Daytona Beach was the epicenter of Florida junior tennis this past weekend as the Florida Tennis Center hosted the USTA Florida 2023 Junior Team Tennis (JTT) Fall State Championships on December 9 and December 10, 2023.

A gathering of more than 25 teams, showcasing over 250 young athletes, marked the grand finale on the JTT season. The courts were buzzing with intensity as teams battled across four divisions, creating a weekend of thrilling matches.

Liz Spicer, USTA Florida Youth Team Play Manager was thrilled with the turnout all year long and the core values JTT stands for. "This program focuses on more than just game, it's a journey for young players to not only grow within the game, but also discover the joy of teamwork, sportsmanship, and the create lifelong memories,” she said.

Present at the competition was one of USTA Florida’s newest partners, SwingVision, a cutting-edge mobile app that’s revolutionizing tennis around the world. The program uses artificial intelligence to analyze your game in real time. It also allows players to use lines to review if a ball is in or out, just like the pros can!

The 2023 JTT Fall State Championship not only wrapped up an exhilarating season but also highlighted the program's growth, reaching 19 counties and involving more than 350 players. JTT is not only a wonderful on-court experience, but also one of the best ways to teach these young athletes off the court lessons.

Tennis stands as one of the most rapidly growing sports, not only within Florida but on a global scale. Of the more than 1.6 million players, over 27% of them are players aged 6-18. The JTT program, recognizing tennis as more than an individual game, emerges as a great way to teach a plethora of things to all participants. Through JTT, children not only hone their skills to thrive in a competitive setting, but they also utilize valuable lessons in sportsmanship, such as communication and how to treat one another.
