USTA Florida Announces Return of Junior Team Tennis This Fall

Nicole Hardenstine | September 01, 2020

USTA Florida is thrilled to announce the planned resumption of Junior League (Team Tennis) this fall in select Florida counties under strict return to play recommendations developed with crucial feedback from the Florida tennis community.

“We are extremely grateful and excited that we are able to resume Junior Team Tennis this fall,” said USTA Florida Youth Team Play Manager Liz Coates. “Safety is our main priority for players, team captains, teaching pros and our staff who run these programs. We have implemented new guidelines to ensure that we can resume Junior Team Tennis in the safest way possible.”

In July and August, USTA Florida shared the challenges and questions needed to be addressed before the Junior Team Tennis program could resume in Florida amid the COVID-19 environment. The feedback from the Florida tennis community proved critical to the establishment of these guidelines that will assist the non-profit organization in resuming the Junior Team Tennis program this fall.

Junior Leagues in several Florida communities will resume in mid-September to early October. The safety and well-being of all players and program-related personnel remains the first and foremost consideration of USTA Florida. All players and facilities are encouraged to adhere to the play recommendations, as well as all local health and safety regulations when returning to play. The recommendations include format modifications as well as guidance for both players and facilities.

Leagues are currently available in the following areas:

Established in 1991, USTA Junior Team Tennis provides youth ages 6-18 with all of the health and social benefits of tennis in a coed, fun and competitive team environment — all while allowing participants to compete with and against individuals of similar ages and skill levels. The programs foster social skills, team player, cooperation and individual self-growth.
