USTA Florida Tennis Players Coco Gauff, Ben Shelton, & More Take the Clay at 2023 French Open
The famous clay courts at Roland Garros are ready for action as the draw is out for the 2023 French Open Grand Slam. Tennis fans around the world are excited, as they should be, and a talented group of Florida tennis pros are hungry to bring home a title.
Eight different tennis players from Florida, competing in Singles and Doubles, are set to take the red clay. These include Coco Gauff (Delray Beach), Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg), Sloane Stephens (Plantation), Sebastian Korda (Bradenton), Ben Shelton (Gainesville), Austin Krajicek (Tampa), Nicole Melichar-Martinez (Stuart), and Elizabeth Mandlik (Boca Raton), who are all looking to make their mark in France.
At just 19 years old, Coco Gauff has already proven to be one of the best in the tennis world. Just last year, she found herself in the Finals of the event and this time around she wants to win it all.
Danielle Collins, a former Grand Slam finalist, is looking to make a deep run the French Open. She reached the quarterfinals in 2020 and is capable of one-upping that performance this year. She will have great chances if she is able to win her first-round match as she drew No. 3 seed Jessica Pegula (USA).
Another woman, Sloane Stephens, a former US Open champion, has the experience and talent to excel at the French Open. She knows what it’s like to make a deep run on the clay courts as she reached the finals in 2018.
Sebastian Korda and Ben Shelton have had a great start to their 2023 campaign. Korda and Shelton both reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open earlier this year and are looking to keep that momentum going.
Austin Krajicek, Nicole Melichar-Martinez, and Elizabeth Mandlik also enter the French Open, representing Florida. Krajicek and Melichar-Martinez's will put their skills to the test in the Doubles draw, while Mandlik earned her spot through the Singles Qualifying draw.
