Year in Review: USTA Florida Foundation

Jaret Kappelman | December 28, 2022

The USTA Florida Foundation had a marvelous 2022 and that wouldn’t have been possible without you! With a mission of “Changing Lives through Tennis” the Foundation has been able to do just that this year.

During our 2022 Grant Cycles the Foundation awarded over $205,000. This was handed out in the form of equipment, program, and wheelchair grants, which helped grow tennis across the entire state.

These grants have made a positive impact on the community where kids, adults, and adaptive players are able to share and make memories in the sport we all love.

The Foundation saw the 2022 hurricane season devastate Florida, as two separate storms ripped through the peninsula. In response to these hurricanes, the Foundation launched the Hurricane Relief Fund, a way for the community to come together and help rebuild tennis in Florida.

To kick off fundraising, The Exchange band, led by USTA Florida Board President Phil Giraridi, rocked out the night at the 2022 USTA Florida Annual Meeting and Tennis Celebration weekend and raised over $17,000 for Florida relief. We have a goal of reaching $1 million so every penny helps brings us close to that total.

If you were affected by these storms, the Foundation is here to help. Fill out a request form and tell us more about the type of help you need. Requests completed by January 31, 2023 will be the first to be reviewed.

The USTA Florida Foundation continues to offer the "Play Tennis" License Plate as a way to show your love of tennis every day while giving back to the sport which has given us all so much. With every plate that is sold, 90% of the proceeds are poured directly back into the community to assist communities and help programs achieve their tennis goals.

If you’re still looking to make a difference as the year winds down or in 2023, the Hurricane Relief Fund is still accepting donations, as well as the Round Up app, which takes 100% of all donations and helps fund tennis across the state.

The USTA Florida Foundation thanks you for all your help this year and we look forward to making an impact in 2023!
