Some of the top 10 and Under players along the East Coast are coming to the Mid-Atlantic Section to compete in the Northeast Capital Clash team tournament presented by Alien Pros on Oct. 7 and 8. Along with a team from the Mid-Atlantic, the Eastern, Middle States and New England Sections are each sending eight green ball players to represent their Sections and compete as a team.

Players are selected to compete at the Capital Clash through outstanding performance in other 10 and Under tournaments. For players who may normally play just as individuals, the Capital Clash is a memorable experience because it emphasizes team play and building friendships, which creates a rewarding tennis experience on and off the court.

“Each Section’s team is made up of kids that reside in their Section, but they may not live anywhere near one another,” said USTA Mid-Atlantic 10 and Under Manager Rob Issem.  “The kids may have seen each other at events before, but at the Capital Clash they’ll form a team and become friends!”

Over the course of the weekend, each time a player wins a match, it will be counted toward their team’s overall score. Doubles is king at the Northeast Capital Clash; it will account for more than two-thirds of all matches played at the tournament.

“We love emphasizing doubles because it boosts the fun, creates great friendships and injects the event with a team spirit right from the start! Plus doubles is outstanding developmentally for the kids’ tennis skills,” Issem said.

The Northeast Capital Clash is sponsored by Alien Pros and will take place at the Junior Tennis Champions Center. Head to the USTA Mid-Atlantic Facebook page at noon on Sunday to watch the team trick shot challenge live and cheer on the rising stars all weekend long on USTA MAS social media!
