Introducing Tennis Through Play and Teamwork: A Look Back at 2024 and Exciting Opportunities for 2025!

May 02, 2025

The USTA Mid-Atlantic Foundation’s Red Ball Team Tennis program served up a fantastic 2024 season, bringing the joy of tennis to young players across six locations! With an exciting blend of instruction and real match play, this innovative program earned glowing feedback from parents and coaches. It created an environment where kids developed their skills, built confidence, made new friends, and fell in love with the game—all while having a blast on the court.

Through Red Ball Team Tennis, children experience the thrill of competition early, much like other youth sports, but in a way that is low-pressure, supportive, and fun. This structured yet playful format helps young players thrive, emphasizing teamwork and growth over scores and standings.

Parents and coaches were thrilled with the results:

"I was so impressed with how much my child learned during these sessions. It was amazing to see the transformation moving from a clinic-style of learning to a more structured team program!" — Megahan Greeley, parent, Friends of Patterson Park program (Baltimore, MD)

"Thanks to USTA Mid-Atlantic for providing a league format for young kids. Educating parents about this opportunity will only help grow the game!"— Mike Perales, coach, Perales Tennis (New Windsor, MD)

"Love introducing match play at a young age to alleviate the anxiety kids feel later on!" — Amanda Cuthbertson, parent, ProsToYou program (McLean, VA)
