$100,000 Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge Returning to Landisville August 5, 2024
Some of the world’s top female tennis players return to Landisville, Pa. this summer for the Koser Jewelers Tennis Challenge, a USTA Pro Circuit Event scheduled from August 5-11 at Hempfield recCenter. (1251 Stony Battery Rd, Landisville, PA 17538)
This event annually welcomes many of the world’s current and future stars, competing in singles and doubles. Players travel to Hempfield recCenter to pick up valuable world ranking points and even prepare for the US Open — which takes place August 26 to September 8 in New York.
Dozens of event alumni have achieved highly successful professional careers, including Jennifer Brady, Elise Mertens, Jessica Pegula, Ons Jabuer, Emma Raducanu and Madison Brengle, among others.
Last year’s tournament winner, Xinu Wang, is currently performing quite well on the world stage. Wang (Shenzhen, China) earned a career-high singles ranking of No. 32 late last year, and is currently ranked world No. 36. Most recently, she advanced to the Round of 16 in Wimbledon, defeating world No. 5 Pegula along the way.
Three local wildcards were selected to compete in this year’s tournament. At only 16 years old, Elizabeth Ionescu (York, Pa.,) is No. 4 on some national recruiting lists and already has a win against Li. Olivia Dorner (Williamsport, Pa.) competes at the No. 2 singles position at Penn State University and earned the No. 13 singles ranking in the ITA Northeast Region. Ava Catanzarite (Pittsburgh, Pa.) plays for Oklahoma University after two years at UCLA. Her singles record at UCLA brought her to a career-high ITA ranking of No. 42. These three will bring intense competition to this long-awaited event, while Ann Li (King of Prussia, Pa.), from outside of Philadelphia, makes a return to the tournament.
