Junior Team Tennis

The Junior Team Tennis season in the USTA Missouri Valley culminated with the section championship this week at LaFortune Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma where 17 teams comprised of over 100 players competed for the chance to be called the USTA Missouri Valley Junior Team Tennis champion.
Four teams earned championships and three berths to the USTA Junior Team Tennis National Championship were award. The event will be held later this year at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Missouri Athletic Club of St. Louis won the 18U Advanced division, followed by Southern Hills (Tulsa) and ICTennis Club (Wichita)
In the 18U Intermediate division, RH 91 of Tulsa, Oklahoma took the title, followed by Creve Couer Racquet Club (St. Louis) and Kapaun (Wichita)
In the 14U Intermediate, RH 91 won the championship over Quail Creek, also of Oklahoma.ADVERTISEMENT
The 14U Advanced division was won by a team from Creve Coeur Racquet Club in St. Louis.
Finally, in the 12U Intermediate division, which will not advance to the National Championship, Homestead Country Club of USTA Heart of America defeated Oklahoma City Tennis Center by three games.
At the completion of each team match, each coach nominated 1 boy and 1 girl from the opposing team as their sportsmanship selection, below are the boys and girls that received the most nominations from coaches.
18U Advanced: Abby Gaines (Missouri Athletic Club)-St. Louis and Calvin Murrell (Ark City)-Kansas
18U Intermediate: Beth Ellen Bayless (RH-91)-Oklahoma and Charlie Foss (Kapaun)-Kansas
14U Intermediate: Micah Dahlsten (Hesston)-Kansas
12U Green Intermediate: Rachel Tomecek (Lafortune)-Oklahoma and Isaac Anderson (Homestead)-Heart of America
We also asked teams to show their spirit throught the event. Homestead won the best team chant award in the 18U and Quail Creek won in the 14U.
Teams also displayed spirit through the colors they wore all week. Kapaun and Arkansas City, both of Kansas, won the award for their "color blast" in the 18U division, while RH-91 White won in 14U and 12U had Homestead, Oklahoma City Tennis Center and LaFortune all displaying their team colors well.
Arkansas City and the team from LaFortune Tennis Center also shared great images from the event on Instagram.
USTA Junior Team Tennis, designed for players ages 6 to 18, gives players a way to participate in an individual sport and experience the excitement of team play. The program emphasizes fun and fitness, and groups players by age-group and skill level, leading to more competitive matches.
