Ten Teams Win

The season for League Section Championships officially began in St. Louis beginning on August 3. Over 400 matches were played by dozens of teams at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center and Westminster Christian Academy.
The champions and the home district are as follows:
18+ 3.0 Women: Oklahoma (Candy Phillips)
18+ 4.0 Women: Kansas (Michelle Bettis)
18+ 5.0 Women: Oklahoma (Nicky Glover)
55+ 7.0 Women: St. Louis (Marilyn Uelhof)
55+ 9.0 Women: St. Louis (Shannon Carney-Gordon)
18+ 3.0 Men: Oklahoma (Ky Nichols)
18+ 4.0 Men: Oklahoma (Chad Sanders)
18+ 5.0 Men: Kansas (Danny Williams)
55+ 7.0 Men: Kansas (Bob Bundy)
55+ 9.0 Men: Heart of America (Tim Weber)
Winning teams from this weekend’s event will receive the title of USTA Missouri Valley Section Champions and advance to the USTA League Tennis Championships at locations varying from Las Vegas to Orlando. ADVERTISEMENT This year, League Tennis Championships will have a colorful aspect as each section has been assigned a color to represent them at the events. This year, USTA Missouri Valley will be represented by pink.
The teams this weekend, which represent various clubs, parks, recreational departments and organizations, finished at the top of their local leagues and the winning teams will represent the USTA Missouri Valley at the USTA League National Championships. Over 600 players participated in the event over the weekend.
USTA League Tennis is a competitive, team-based match play format designed for all players 18 and older and of all skill level. Teams are generally made up of approximately eight players, depending on the division played and all matches are played against those of a similar skill level.
Five more League Section Championships are scheduled over the next few months. The action returns to Oklahoma City, Aug. 23-26. League Section Championships will also be hosted in Topeka, Omaha, Kansas City and Springfield.
