2024 Tennis on Campus Section Championship Results
Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, MO played host again this year to the 2024 USTA Missouri Valley Tennis On Campus Section Championship as 16 college club-tennis teams from across the USTA Missouri Valley Section competed for bragging rights.
The teams were vying for a top four finish, and the opportunity to advance to next month's 2024 USTA Tennis On Campus National Championship (April 4-6) at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, GA. After two full days of tennis, the four schools who earned advancement to TOC Nationals are: Washington University (St. Louis), St. Louis University, University of Kansas, and Iowa State University.
Washington University took home the top honors for the third year in a row as they went undefeated throughout the weekend and defeated their cross-town rival in the finals with a decisive 30-11 win. On the adjacent courts, it was a battle for third place as the Jayhawks of the University of Kansas edged out their interstate foe, the Iowa State University Cyclones 26-22 for a 3rd place finish for the second straight year. Both teams played great and will be advancing to the 2024 TOC Nationals.
All captains and players received gifts for attending, and the 1st-4th place teams received awards for their efforts. In addition, our USTA Missouri Valley Adult League department provided gifts for TOC players who took time to discuss adult leagues and our Red Ball Tennis social play options. Micah Matthews, USTA Officiating Growth Manager, was also on-site talking to the players about getting involved with officiating at USTA.
A huge "thank you" goes out to the entire staff at Cooper Tennis Complex for their assistance to make this unique event a success. We are sending a special thanks to Mallory Weber (Cooper Complex) and John Xu (tournament official) for going above and beyond as such gracious hosts. Their efforts were amazing and greatly appreciated. HyVee also donated a gift-card to help purchase cases of water and Gatorade for our players.
We would also like to thank Elaine Wingfield (Impact Team Tennis), as well as Josh Bramblett, Lauren Rothstein, and Adelaide Wood (USTA National) for their support of the TOC program. Much appreciation also goes to USTA Missouri Valley staff members Laura Jager, Alyssa Stelmach, Manon Eilts and Alywn Mushonga for assisting during the event. In addition, thank you to Victoria Moore, Mary Buschmann, and Marissa Brown for helping to make this an amazing event.
