Ten talented teams ready for Junior Team Tennis showdown in Edmond

Josh Sellmeyer | July 14, 2025

One of USTA Missouri Valley's two Junior Team Tennis Qualifiers took place in Kansas City at Plaza Tennis Center on June 24-25.

Ten teams representing three districts from USTA Missouri Valley are set to compete in the 2025 Junior Team Tennis Section Championships. Six 18U teams and four 14U squads will battle for titles on July 15-16 at Edmond Center Court—a USTA Premier Facility—in central Oklahoma.

“We are incredibly excited for this year’s Junior Team Tennis Section Championships,” said Tara Williams, USTA Missouri Valley senior manager, junior team play. “Edmond Center Court is such a top-tier facility—it creates an electric atmosphere for the players, coaches and families.

“Every year, this event brings out the best in our teams, and I know 2025 will be no exception. It’s always a highlight of the summer for our staff that gets to work the event.”

Talented Field Assembled

A total of 93 players will compete at the event. Teams earned their spot at the JTT Section Championships by placing first or second in a JTT Qualifier, which were held earlier this year. Teams also could qualify by winning their summer local league playoff/championship or by receiving a wild-card invite.

“The level of play at Section Championships is truly impressive,” Williams said. “These teams have worked hard all season, and you can see that in the depth of their lineups and the quality of their matches.

“But just as remarkable is the sportsmanship. Whether it’s encouraging teammates, showing respect to opponents or handling tough moments, the players consistently represent their communities with class and character. It’s something their coaches and parents should be really proud of. I know we are proud to see that as section staff.”

Oklahoma's Winning Streak

Last year was the third one in a row that USTA Oklahoma JTT squads won both the 18U and 14U divisions. The district will be well-represented once again in 2025 with a trio of teams competing in the 18U division and a pair of teams in the 14U division.

In 2024, the Oklahoma City-based Britton Christian Church Tennis Academy (BCCTA) Bears captured the 18U championship. The Bears will again shoot for a title, this time coached by Jessica Reineke.

BCCTA finished second in their JTT Qualifier on June 18-19 in Tulsa, nipped by five games (160-155) by VWTA @ TU. Seven teams in total—four in 18U and three in 14U—and 70 players participated in the Tulsa JTT Qualifier at Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park. The second JTT Qualifier took place June 24-25 in Kansas City, Missouri at Plaza Tennis Center.

Teams participating in the JTT Section Championships will be decked out in the color of their choosing with the 2025 theme being ‘Color Wars.’ The best-coordinated team will receive a prize, and sportsmanship awards will be given out as well to a boy and girl from each division.
