The historic Plaza Tennis Center in Kansas City, MO, played host to the 2022 L4 Open USTA Missouri Valley NTRP 40+ Section Championship July 22-24, and to say the competition was intense is an understatement! Players from around the Kansas City metro area and beyond (some came from as far as Florida and Texas!) hit the courts for a shot at the title, and we’re excited to share with you the winners of this year’s tournament:

 

Men’s Event Winners:

 

  • NTRP 3.5 Men’s 40 & Over Doubles: Jason Bonet, Kansas City, MO/Shahzad Shafique, Kansas City, MO

  • NTRP 4.0 Men’s 40 & Over Doubles: Ravi Sriram, Waco, TX/Butch Mogavero, Robinson, TX

  • NTRP 3.0 Men’s 40 & Over Singles: Andre Curiel, Riverside, MO

  • NTRP 3.5 Men’s 40 & Over Singles: Paul Spears, Overland Park, KS

  • NTRP 4.0 Men’s 40 & Over Singles: Kevin Cue, Newalla, OK

  • Men’s Open Singles: Shayan Najam, Washington, D.C.

 

Women’s Event Winners:

 

  • NTRP 3.5 Women’s 40 & Over Singles: Susan Schatz, Kansas City, MO

  • NTRP 4.0 Women’s 40 & Over Singles: Susan Palmer, Topeka, KS

 

We’re so proud of all who competed in this fun-filled tournament. Way to go, everyone!

 

Plaza Tennis Center was again the host of another USTA Missouri Valley tournament in July, the USTA Heart of America Closed Adult Championships. From July 29-31, players in the 18 & Over division brought their A-Games to the courts, with fierce competition and, of course, plenty of displays of excellent sportsmanship.
