Girls State Tennis Results

Pete Francis | October 25, 2021

The Kansas and Missouri girls state tennis championships each wrapped up recently, culminating with the Missouri team championships on October 22-23 in Springfield. The singles and doubles tournaments were held on October 14-16, along with the Kansas championships on October 15-16. 6A was held in Wichita along with 1A-3A. 5A was held in Emporia, while 4A was held in Winfield.

This year’s state championship was filled with plenty of storylines.

The Barstow School made history in Missouri by winning the rare triple crown, claiming the team, singles and doubles titles in its first year in Class 2 competition.

Shawnee Mission East claimed its third straight team title in 6A with 49 total points. Juniors Bryson Langford and Greta Stechshulte led the way with their third consecutive doubles title, and they won the title against their teammates, Abigail Long and Katie Schmidt, 6-4, 6-4.

In 6A singles, Manhattan’s Jill Harkin won the state title. Harkin was the state runner-up last season. Her brother, Dan, won the boys 6A state singles title in the spring.

Over in Emporia, Andover claimed the team title in 5A with 46 points.

Kapaun Mount Carmel’s Reagan Boleski won the 5A singles title after finishing runner up the past two years, earning the win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Bishop Carroll’s Brynn Steven.

Over in 5A doubles, Seaman’s Grace Unruh and Lauren Sweeney took home the first state doubles title in school history.

McPherson won the 4A team title in Winfield with Patty Huerta and Perrin Schneider winning 4A doubles. Topeka Hayden’s Ainzley Zuleta, a freshman, captured the 4A singles championship.

Collegiate emerged victorious in 1A-3A with Emma Mantovani winning the singles title. In doubles, Lily Conrad and Ella Graham claimed their second straight state championship.
