Heartland Wheelchair Classic comes to KC in April

Sydney Hamilton | February 12, 2025

More wheelchair tennis opportunities are coming to our district, and we’re excited to help spread the word!

The Level 4 USTA Heart of America Heartland Wheelchair Classic is set for April 25-27 at Northland Racquet Club in North Kansas City. Spots are open for wheelchair competitors seeking exciting match play to kick off the summer tournament season.

“USTA Heart of America is thrilled to host a wheelchair tennis tournament in our district,” said Rebecca Falkner Axelrod, USTA Heart of America executive director. "We’ll kick off the tournament weekend with a clinic for juniors and those interested in wheelchair tennis. And following the clinic, we’ll host a mixer where everyone can mingle.”

Individuals interested in volunteering for the event can learn more about those opportunities by clicking here. Volunteers are required to complete a SafeSport course and will receive a T-shirt for their service.

There will also be a clinic for players ahead of the party from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sports chairs will be provided as needed, and it’s open to all players. However, the clinic is geared more toward junior players. Registration is required, so sign up here to reserve your spot for this free event.

April 26-27 (Saturday-Sunday): It’s tournament time! There are several divisions for both men and women to participate in, and both singles and doubles divisions are available. Registration is open through April 20, but don’t wait—sign up now to secure your spot in the draw by clicking here.

Falkner Axelrod is the tournament director for the weekend. She is thrilled to help bring the event to Kansas City and hopes to make it memorable for all.

“My goal is to not only provide the players a fantastic experience but to continue education and advocacy efforts in the community,” Falkner Axelrod said.
