ACEing Autism - 2018 Program Dates Held at Kansas City Racquet Club

 

ACEing Autism's mission is to make the sport of tennis available to children with autism and to use tennis as a means to enhance health and fitness, hand-eye coordination and motor development and improve the social skills for children with autism.

 

Each week participants will work on different fundamentals of the game of tennis. Participants will have an opportunity to increase their social skills through taking turns, working in teams, and following instructions. ADVERTISEMENT Activities each week will include:  group warm-up; hand-eye coordination; racquet skills; volleys; groundstrokes; and group games.  Racquets and equipment  will be provided.  Dates for ACEing Autism are as follows:

 

February 2018: 11th, 18th, 25th

4:00 – 5:00 PM (Ages 10 and under)

5:00 – 6:00 PM (Ages 11 and over)

 

March 2018: 4th, 11th, 18th

4:00 – 5:00 PM (Ages 10 and under)

5:00 – 6:00 PM (Ages 11 and over)

Special Olympics - Metro Regional Tennis Tournament 

May 5, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

 

The Metro Regional Tennis Tournament will be held on Saturday, May 5 at the Overland Park Racquet Club, 6800 W 91st St, Overland Park, KS 66212.  The tournament will begin at noon. For more information, contact Terri Price

 

Genesis Charter School After School – September- May

Genesis School offers youth tennis and education program for all students!  Genesis is a NJTL (National Junior Tennis & Learning) Chapter of the United States Tennis Association. There is a full-time tennis coach on staff, and their tennis teams play across the metro area.  

 

To get involved or volunteer with the year-round tennis programs at Genesis Charter Schools, please contact Pam Kopplin, Development Director, at 913, 207-3990.

 

Volunteers are needed  on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday from 3:15 - 5:00. It is an after school program and it could be a rewarding experience and volunteer opportunity.

Tennis Buddies Overland Park Racquet Club – August - May

 

Heart of America Tennis Buddies was started in 2011 by a small group of devoted tennis players who wanted to share their love for tennis with special needs athletes.  Tennis Buddies meet weekly for a one-hour clinic and are paired with competitive players for ongoing practice and match-play.  Practice is held at the Overland Park Racquet Club at 91st and Metcalf in Overland Park, KS.  Tennis Buddies is supported by Special Olympics of Kansas and the USTA Missouri Valley Section.

 

Tennis Buddies meet on Sunday evenings from 5:00 – 6:00 PM at the Overland Park Racquet Club.  To volunteer with Tennis Buddies, please contact Christian Boschert at 913-642-6880.  

 

Wheelchair Tennis at Northland Racquet Club - April 6-8, 2018 

Wheel It Forward Wheelchair Tournament will be held on April 6-8 at the Northland Racquet Club, Kansas City, MO – This will be a $4,000 in prize money tournament.  Volunteers are needed to assist with the tournament.  For more information or to volunteer, please contact Rick Haith.  

 

USTA Heart of America Junior Tournaments

Tournament help is needed throughout the year in assisting in the organization/running of junior tournaments in USTA HOA.  Duties include check-ins, tournament desk, etc.  To assist with tournaments, please contact Peggy Parrish.

 

WIN for KC Summer Camp - need to get volunteer help for 2 days during
June 2018 timeframe. This will be the USTA’s 11th year assisting with the WIN Tennis Clinics.

Camp WIN is designed to IGNITE young girls of the Kansas City area.

 

Session 1: 
June 4-7, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily
Notre Dame de Sion High School

 

Session 2: 
June 18-21, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily
St. Teresa’s Academy

Registration will open Wednesday, February 7

 

Session 3:

June 25-28, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily

St. Teresa’s Academy
