USTA teams with Ray-Pec schools to bring tennis to students, greater community
USTA Heart of America is proud to share the USTA Missouri Valley has partnered with Raymore-Peculiar School District in south Kansas City to bring tennis to students and the greater KC community as part of the USTA schools program.
Through this partnership the USTA provided the necessary equipment, training and sports curriculum—curated with help from SHAPE America—as part of a workshop with educators of Ray-Pec schools to help them teach students about tennis and all its benefits.
After the workshop, the USTA set up a meeting between Ray-Pec schools and the Stephanie Waterman Foundation—a National Junior Tennis & Learning (NJTL) program and USTA schools partner—to plan how to bring tennis programming to the community at-large via after-school and summer programs.
The USTA, Stephanie Waterman Foundation and Ray-Pec schools have planned two camps for this summer. The first is a weeklong camp for elementary and middle school children that takes place the week of June 3. The other is a weekly camp/clinic that will begin in July or August with times for elementary, middle school and high school students—as well as a time for adults.
Dates, times and costs are being finalized and will be shared with the public soon. Both camp opportunities will be hosted at Memorial Park.
The USTA Missouri Valley works not only to provide education and equipment to schools and communities, but also to develop programs and partnerships offering accessible tennis program pathways. So those who fall in love with the sport have the opportunity to grow and continue participating.
