Shawnee Man, 85, Sweeps Doubles Nationals as Part of Epic 2023 Season
We have so many high-achieving players of all ages here in USTA Heart of America. One such player, Wilbur Jones of Shawnee, KS, capped off an incredible 2023 season with a slew of tournament wins and awards.
Jones, who is 85 years old, is currently ranked #1 in the nation in both singles and doubles and is ranked # 1 in the world doubles in his division. This is not surprising, seeing as he was part of a team that swept all four L1 National Doubles tournaments in 2023 and took home three additional singles titles in both L1 and L2 Nationals. Jones also represented Team USA at the World Cup Tennis Tournament in Mallorca, Spain in October, where he and his team won gold and placed ahead of teams from 27 other countries.
After the tremendous showing in Mallorca, Jones has again qualified to represent Team USA at the World Cup in Turkey in March 2024.
Congratulations, Wilbur, on an amazing 2023 tennis season! We can’t wait to watch all you achieve in 2024.
