Trent Schneider, new junior competition chair, shares goals for 2025

USTA Iowa’s new junior competition chair is a familiar face in the district.

Trent Schneider has worked as the men’s and women’s tennis head coach at Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa since 2021. He was selected as the Midwest Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year in '21. In his new role with the USTA, he hopes to bring more awareness to the tennis community around the district.

“A big goal of mine is to see tournament participant numbers grow,” he said. “It starts with education and awareness, having events that provide guaranteed matches and then working those players into the higher-level events such as Level 6 and Level 5, etc.”

Schneider said playing tournaments, single-day events, anything that is match play—verified or not—is the best way to develop and improve one’s game.

“Playing in a high percentage of level-based match play is the best way to go and also provides a great experience all around,” he said.

Schneider also hopes to increase the number of tennis opportunities throughout the year, especially in the winter months.

Another goal he has is to expose more junior players to college tennis and let them know there are many opportunities to play at various levels.
