While tennis is typically thought of as an individual sport, a team concept will be the emphasis of the 2018 USTA Missouri Valley Junior Team Tennis Section Championship this week at LaFortune Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The tournament begins July 23 and concludes July 25.

There are 17 total teams competing in the 12s, 14s and 18s age divisions in this United States Tennis Association event coming from Oklahoma, Kansas City, Wichita and St. Louis. The winning team from each division will advance to compete in the USTA National Junior Team Tennis Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orland, Florida.

USTA Junior Team Tennis, designed for players ages 6 to 18, gives players a way to participate in an individual sport and experience the excitement of team play.  The program emphasizes fun and fitness, and groups players by age-group and skill level, leading to more competitive matches.

The event will begin with opening ceremonies at 8 am on July 23 for the 18s divisions. The 14s and 12s divisions will begin their competition with opening ceremonies as well on July 24.

Net Generation will also have a presence at the Junior Team Tennis Section Championship. Net Generation provides American tennis with one unified youth brand for children to get into the sport, making it easier for children and their parents to learn about tennis and get into the game in schools, parks and tennis clubs across the country.

The objective of Net Generation is to provide a safe connection to the sport, as well as a platform to celebrate individuality and self-expression. To ensure a safe environment, all Net Generation providers – including coaches, teachers, players and volunteers – must first go through a Safe Play Program, which involves a three-step process, including a background check, by registering on NetGeneration.com.

Play begins at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 23. Admission is free and open to the public.
