Junior Standings List Restoration

June 29, 2020

The USTA Missouri Valley is extremely excited to announce that the section Junior Competition Committee (JCC) has determined that a new junior standings list will be published on Monday, July 13, 2020. Through researching various options, the JCC took into consideration:

● Players in all 7 districts had several play opportunities during the previous weeks since play resumed on June 1

● Listening to feedback from parents, players, and coaches regarding the 2020 USTA Missouri Valley junior rankings.

● Publishing rankings on a date that would not encourage players to compete if they are not comfortable due to health concerns.

As the USTA Missouri Valley JCC releases the newest publication of the junior standings, there are important aspects that all stakeholders need to be aware of. From March 12, 2020 to June 1, 2020, all relative points from the previous 2019 season will roll-off the 52 week standings list. By allowing the 2019 points to roll off of the junior section standings list, the vast majority of players will have a more level experience moving forward for the remainder of the year.

Once the new USTA Missouri Valley junior standings are published, standings will continue to include the following reflected in the calculations:

● 6 best singles events

● 15% of 6 best doubles events

● For BG 14-18: up to 3 national events included (if tournament is part of players best 6)

● For BG 12: up to 2 national events included (if tournament is part of players best 6)

● 20% of points counted up to next age eligible division; 100% of points counted down

If a player plans to participate in a district level 5-7 tournament in June or early July, the respective ranking points will be allocated in the next publication of the rankings.

Starting with the September 5-7, USTA Missouri Valley L4 #4, the most recent published standings will be used to make player selection and seeding, unless otherwise noted by the section or district sanctioning body. July 25-27 USTA Missouri Valley L4 #3 and August 1-3 USTA Missouri Valley L3 #1 will utilize the section standing list published on March 12, 2020.
