Riverside Tennis Center to Receive $1.5 Million Renovation
Exciting updates are coming to Riverside Tennis Center in Wichita, Kansas. The city approved a $1.5 million project to renovate the center and expand its outdoor courts.
While the plans are not completely set in stone, the outline for the renovations has been approved. The facility is currently home to 10 outdoor tennis courts, three indoor tennis courts and three outdoor pickleball courts. This project will add three new outdoor tennis courts as well as six outdoor pickleball courts. The indoor courts will be resurfaced and seven of the older outdoor tennis courts will be completely removed and reconstructed. New lighting and seating will be added to the facility as well.
These new features will help the center reach its goals of community expansion and youth involvement.
“It’s really going to benefit us when we are in the outdoor/summer season,” said Sara Rasmussen, director of Riverside Tennis Center. “We’re getting ready to host the boy’s high school state [tournament] in May. We also have bigger junior tournaments, such as the district open, that pull in over 100 kids.”
The new courts will allow the center to host larger tournaments, many of which require a minimum of 12 outdoor courts. The renovation plans are set to be completed by the end of 2020.
