USTA Kansas Junior Team Tennis Winter Opportunities
Junior Team Tennis is an excellent opportunity for students to enjoy friendly competition while improving their skills. While the Junior Team Tennis season runs through the summer, USTA Kansas Junior Team Tennis Coordinator Janet Glaser is working on providing opportunities for students to enjoy the program during the winter months.
Last year, Glaser ran a small collection of non-advancing team tournaments in Wichita that allowed students to practice between the school tennis seasons. She plans to provide the same opportunity this year.
“It was pretty popular, everyone seemed to like it,” Glaser said. “I’m really excited to do it again for sure.”
These Junior Team Tennis events featured teams of four. Timed matches were played to 25 minutes. The scores were then reported with games accumulating per team.
“In the beginning, I didn’t know how it would work or if it would be fun,” Glaser said. “But at the end, the scores came out amazing.”
Currently, the tournaments will only be held in Wichita, but Glaser has plans to someday expand to other cities.
Glaser is preparing to start the tournaments in December. Anyone looking to register will need to contact her at janetglaser70@gmail.com at the end of October. Facility restrictions may limit the number of participants.
