October 10, 2023

Kimberly Y. Hughes Gill from USTA St. Louis was one of 16 women around the country to earn Champion of Equality recognition from the USTA at the 2023 US Open. The US Open's inaugural Champions of Equality event was a celebration of the fight for equality that featured the legendary Billie Jean King and Venus Williams, alongside Telva McGruder, Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer at General Motors, and award-winning broadcast journalist Christiane Amanpour, who moderated. The recognition was given to 16 women nominated from the USTA Sections, who were honored for their contributions at the grassroots level put toward the ongoing effort of leveling the playing field for all.

Hughes Gill got to spend time at the US Open with her family, enjoying the festivities and some great tennis. She said it was incredibly special to share the experience with her family and take in the atmosphere of one of tennis' great spectacles. Hear more from Kim below on her experience in New York.
