10 Questions With Courtney Nesbitt

Jeff Kessinger | March 29, 2020

We recently talked with USTA Missouri staff member Courtney Nesbitt to get to know more about her role with USTA Missouri and her backstory. Nesbitt has been a pivotal member of the USTA Missouri staff for nearly a year, and we hope these questions shed a little light on why she is so passionate about growing the game of tennis.

USTA.com: What is your position with USTA Missouri Valley?

Nesbitt: I am the Adult and Junior Competition Coordinator for USTA Missouri.

USTA.com: What are some of your responsibilities in that position?

Nesbitt: I am in charge of scheduling, monitoring, and growing all play opportunities throughout USTA Missouri. I schedule junior and adult tournaments and leagues, as well as run some of them myself.

USTA.com: What things bring you joy when you're doing this job?

Nesbitt: Juniors have always been my passion. I love watching them compete in play in our events. I love being able to create new opportunities for play for all ages and levels of play.

USTA.com: How long have you been playing tennis?

Nesbitt: I started a little “PeeWee” tennis class when I was 4. I got serious about playing when I was 10.

USTA.com: Did you play any high school or college tennis?

Nesbitt: I played at a national level as a junior. I got an injury to my Achilles tendon when I was 17 and was instructed by my doctor to take two years off. After that, I lost my scholarship opportunities and started teaching. I fell in love with teaching and have been teaching ever since.

USTA.com: What about your tennis game do you really like?

Nesbitt: I love my forehand. My inside out forehand is my best shot.

USTA.com: Who is your dream doubles partner?

Nesbitt: I do not watch professional tennis so I do not have an answer to that question on an actual note. But currently, my dream doubles partner would be my husband… but it’s a dream because he is a very beginner. I would love for him to get better and eventually be able to compete in some mixed doubles with me.

USTA.com: What do you when you're not working for USTA Missouri?

Nesbitt: I also am a tennis pro. I teach a lot of kids around Missouri. I teach one day a week in Columbia at the Green Tennis Center, a couple of days in Jefferson City, and some here in Camdenton where I live.

USTA.com: Tell us about your family.

Nesbitt: I live on the water down here at the Lake of the Ozarks with my husband Nick and my daughter Paisley. We love it down here.

USTA.com: What is the best piece of life advice you've received?

Nesbitt: The best piece of life advice I have ever received was when my coach told me to find solutions, not excuses. That has stuck with me my whole life. Not just on the tennis court but in everyday life.
