2020 Flex Leagues
If you’re not familiar with flex leagues, it’s time to get to know them better.
“A flex league has the structure of an organized tennis league with a flexible schedule,” Heidi Smith, Executive Director of USTA Missouri. “We are running our adult leagues as flex leagues this year so we can be really flexible and use any format to meet the players’ needs during this difficult time.”
That’s right. All adult leagues will be flex leagues and will not affect NTRP this year.
“NTRP ratings do not apply with flex leagues, which makes for a more relaxed atmosphere,” Smith said. “We can also not require a USTA membership, which we did this year to help get players playing that can not afford the membership expense this year. We have gotten really good feedback and players feel like we are keeping them in mind. Some players who have not played in several years due to tight budgets are playing.”
League fees are a flat $35. This includes entry into the District Doubles Event August 8-9, location to be determined, all court fees and one can of balls per court. For more information, contact Missouri’s League Coordinator Courtney Nesbitt, courtneytime2grow@outlook.com.
And don’t worry if you can’t play in a flex league this summer. There are more opportunities coming.
“I also use the flex league during the winter and fall to run a few leagues for players who want to play and are looking for a group,” Smith said. “We’re hoping to have a mixed doubles league in the fall.”
