Springfield Boys & Girls Club Play Day with Springfield Lasers
The Springfield Boys & Girls Club had a Play Day event at the Cooper Tennis Complex on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, just before the Springfield Lasers World TeamTennis match.
The children got to review basic tennis skills and put them into practice before they went into games, all concluded with a competition led by three pros at Cooper. Afterward, the group stuck around to watch the Springfield Lasers take on the Orange County Breakers.
Cooper Tennis partnered with USTA Missouri to make this event happen, along with organizing four weeks’ worth of instructional lessons leading up to the Play Day with WTT.
Below are a few highlights to what the kids learned and liked about their tennis experience this summer:
"Tennis was seen as a singular thing... I quickly realized how many activities and ways that you can practice athleticism." - Sam Plummer (Sports Coordinator at Springfield Boys & Girls Club)
"Harder than it looks on T.V. It looks easy but it's difficult to control the ball." - Savanah
"It's a great way to be able to hang out with new people and be a part of the community." - Micah
"I thought it would be easy and boring. I tried it at the Boys & Girls Club and it was so much fun!" - Kayleigh
