Kseniya Zonova Named USTA Missouri JTT Coordinator

Josh Sellmeyer | August 23, 2023

USTA Missouri has hired former NCAA Division-I tennis player Kseniya Zonova as the district’s Junior Team Tennis coordinator. Zonova — who began in her new role on August 3 — also works as a tennis teaching professional at Vetta Sports in St. Louis.

Zonova said she is “looking forward to working with USTA Missouri and cannot wait to see what we can accomplish together.” She was a standout student-athlete at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, as she ranks fourth all-time in SEMO women’s tennis history for career wins.

Zonova led SEMO to a 15-5 record in 2021 and helped the Redhawks capture their first-ever Ohio Valley Conference Regular-Season championship that season. She was a four-time OVC Academic Medal of Honor recipient for a 4.0 GPA. Zonova was selected for the 2019-2020 President’s Spirit of Southeast Award.

Zonova earned her undergraduate degree in business administration: finance in 2020 then collected an MBA in financial management from SEMO in 2022. She worked as a graduate assistant for the women’s tennis program in 2021-22 before interning with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics.

To better get to know USTA Missouri’s new JTT coordinator, check out this Q&A with Kseniya Zonova:

How did you find out about this job opportunity?

During my internship at the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, I was able to get in touch with one of their former employees who is currently working for the USTA National Office. She said I should look into the USTA Job Center and check it occasionally for different opportunities at the district and section levels. That’s exactly what I did!

Why did you decide to pursue this job?

I decided to pursue this role because I would get to coordinate junior team tournaments! Being originally from Ukraine, I have never experienced playing tennis in a team format until my collegiate career. I always felt like juniors in Europe are missing that aspect of being a part of the team. When I learned a little bit more about JTT I thought it was a really interesting concept and can make tennis way more fun, especially for a kid.

What are some of your roles and responsibilities with this job?

I would say my main responsibilities include the promotion of USTA Junior Team Tennis in the district as well as general assistance in organizing JTT tournaments.

What is your excitement level as you take on this job?

Super excited to start this position! I really believe Missouri has a lot of room to grow in terms of junior tennis programming, and I will do everything I can to assist with this growth opportunity.

What is your tennis background?

I have played tennis since I was around 5 to 6 years old (perks of having parents who are tennis coaches). I mostly played Ukrainian national tennis tournaments and several ITF and USTA tournaments. In addition, I played D-I tennis at Southeast Missouri State University for five years and was a graduate assistant for the team for a year.
