Meet Your New USTA Missouri Digital Assistant

Josh Sellmeyer has been hired as the digital assistant for the USTA St. Louis and USTA Missouri districts. His work covering both districts will begin immediately, as Sellmeyer’s first articles are to be published in the upcoming February e-newsletter.

Sellmeyer has previously worked as a Junior Team Tennis coach and has led tennis group lessons for all ages. Additionally, he has worked multiple USTA Missouri Valley youth tournaments.

Sellmeyer has coached boys’ tennis at Kirkwood High School in St. Louis the past four years. He is in his sixth season as associate head coach of the Webster University men’s soccer team. He graduated from Webster in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in media communications.

Sellmeyer was a standout on both the tennis court and soccer pitch during his four-year collegiate career. That culminated with him earning the Outstanding Male Student-Athlete Award and the Capstone Award for Leadership from Webster his senior year. In tennis, Sellmeyer helped WU to its best-ever season in 2013, as the Gorloks went 19-3 and claimed their first outright St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship.

He has the highest winning percentage in both singles play (.914; 32-3 record) and doubles play (.750; 36-12 record) in Webster program history. His 36 career doubles victories rank him third all-time at WU, while his 32 singles wins rank fifth all-time. Sellmeyer was recently named to the SLIAC All-Decade Team (2010-2019) for men’s tennis.

He was likewise selected to the SLIAC All-Decade Team for men’s soccer. A two-year captain, Sellmeyer was chosen as the 2012 SLIAC Player of the Year. He was also an All-Region and Scholar All-Region honoree his senior year. He led Webster to a pair of SLIAC Tournament championships and NCAA Division III Tournament appearances.

On the coaching side, Sellmeyer has helped guide the Gorloks to records of 11-6-1, 14-4-2 and 12-4-4 the past three years. The 2018 campaign was a record-setting one, as Webster posted shutouts in 15 of 20 games and put together an 18-match unbeaten streak stretching back to 2017.

Prior to coaching at Kirkwood, Sellmeyer coached boys’ tennis at Mehlville High School (his alma mater) as well as De Smet Jesuit High School. He also coached girls’ tennis at Ursuline Academy.

Sellmeyer freelanced for Glimpse — Webster University’s alumni digital publication — from 2015 to 2018. He wrote the cover story for Glimpse in each of the publication’s final four installments. Sellmeyer has received awards for his journalism coverage at the state, regional and national levels. He was a finalist for the prestigious NCAA Jim McKay Scholarship Award while attending Webster.

Sellmeyer is engaged to his fiancé, Rachel Endel, and the couple’s wedding is slated for this June. Sellmeyer remains an avid tennis and soccer player, and he is in the process of teaching his fiancé how to play tennis.
