Springfield Set to Host Level 4 Open Tournament
USTA Missouri has had a strong stretch of playing host to Level 4 junior tournaments the last couple years, and that run continues with the upcoming L4 Open on September 2-4. The tourney for both Girls’ 18s and Boys’ 18s will occur outdoors at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.
It’s the second straight year the district is running the event, which gets awarded by USTA Missouri Valley in two-year cycles. USTA Missouri President Mallory Weber is the Tournament Director and is excited to again welcome top-level junior talent to the Springfield area.
“We’ve been able to host a handful of tournaments the past few years that have gone really well,” Weber said. “We’re proud of Cooper and think it’s a great facility. We feel like we can run a good tournament there. Springfield has a lot to offer. We always look forward to when we can get people in — whether they’re from Missouri or out of the area — run a good tournament and hopefully people have a good experience.”
Registration for the Level 4 event — which is open to amateurs, members and residents of all USTA sections — closes on August 23. Participating players will compete in singles and/or doubles action at the Girls’ 18s and Boys’ 18s divisions. For more information about the tournament or to register, click here.
In both January 2022 and January 2023, USTA Missouri hosted a Level 4 tournament for Boys’ 12s and Boys’ 14s. The district recently found out it was again selected by USTA Missouri Valley to host the younger age groups for a January L4 tournament in the 2024-25 cycle. USTA Missouri was also chosen to run an L4 for multiple age divisions next July.
“We’re one of the smaller districts, but we want to promote the facilities that can hold these larger-level tournaments,” Weber said. “We’ve had some success the last couple years having Level 4s. We’ve done well with our Level 5s and Level 6s. It means a lot to us to get these Level 4s here. And expose people to the district when it’s not a place there’s always a ton of tournaments.”
