Kearney Juniors #2 District Championships
The 2019 Kearney Junior #2 Closed District Championships were hosted in Kearney, NE, June 21-23. This event had almost 60 total junior competitors playing in different age divisions of Boys’ Singles, Boys’ Doubles and Girls’ Singles.
“The best part of hosting this event is getting to see players of various skill levels in different age groups compete over a 3-day tournament,” said Troy Saulsbury, tournament director. “This is a level 4 tournament so it brings in high-level players trying to earn more points towards their ranking.”
Joseph Plachy and his sister Clare Plachy, from Lincoln, both saw success at this year’s tournament as Joseph was part of the Boys’ 16s Doubles Championship team and Clare won the Girls’ 16 Singles Championship.
“The Kearney Districts is such a fun tournament because I feel like I know everyone there and we’re all friends,” said Joseph.
Clare added, “I felt it was well run, the director was right on top of things, and it never got behind. I also really love Kearney because all the people are so nice and the facility is awesome!”
Next school year Joseph and Clare will be entering their Junior seasons for Lincoln Pius X in the quest for a Nebraska High School State Championship.
