Lincoln to host back-to-back professional tennis events this fall
For the second year in a row, a professional men’s tennis tournament will be held at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
This year, the Lincoln Challenger tournament will be held indoors on Oct. 12-19. During the inaugural tournament last year, a number of notable players came including the singles champ, Jacob Fearnley of Great Britain, and U.S. player Chris Eubanks.
“I am most excited about building upon the momentum established in year one,” said Tournament Director Alex Guthrie of Topnotch Events. “On a moment’s notice, Lincoln showed up for the 2024 Lincoln Challenger. Now with more time and an established event, I’m excited to see this event continue to build momentum.”
Guthrie said tournament organizers hope to transition the Lincoln Challenger into a proper event this year with off-court programming and offerings to give fans more than just the tennis being played on court. Examples include having a Kids’ Day and a new Sponsor’s Lounge.
Just like last year, tournament organizers need volunteers to make the event run smoothly, including ticket-takers, drivers, ball kids and more. If you’d like to volunteer, click here to learn more and sign up.
“Volunteering is a unique way to get to experience the event,” Guthrie said. “Being a ballperson gets you the best seat in the house. Being a driver gets you a cool chance to drive a tournament-issued vehicle and drive the players within Lincoln. Volunteers also get cool perks, such as complimentary tickets based on the amount of shifts completed.”
Additionally, the Lincoln PRO Women’s Tennis Open will be held Nov. 3-9. To view more USTA Pro Circuit events within USTA Missouri Valley, click here.
