Lincoln Challenger returns with rising professional stars and new technology

Andrea Gallagher | May 29, 2026

For the third year in a row, professional men’s tennis players from around the world will converge in the state’s capital for the 2026 Lincoln Challenger, an ATP tournament.

This year’s USTA Pro Circuit event will take place July 12-19 at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.

“This year’s tournament will have a few enhancements; the main one will be electronic line calling,” said Peter Kobelt, tournament organizer and University of Nebraska-Lincoln men’s tennis head coach. “Also, this will be one of the lead-up events to this year’s US Open, so we expect a few bigger names to be in this year’s draw.”

The electronic line-calling system is a unique addition, as not all Pro Circuit tourneys utilize this growing technology.

Kobelt said Lincoln Challenger organizers are expecting players ranked anywhere from 80 to 250 in the world to participate. In addition, a few new Cornhusker players will also be competing. The event has a total purse of $100,000.

With school out for the summer and inexpensive ticket prices to see pro tennis, Kobelt said the Lincoln Challenger is an event you don’t want to miss.

“Last year’s champion, Rafael Jodar from Spain, is now 29 in the world,” Kobelt said. “You have a chance to watch the next superstar in a major sport like tennis right here in Lincoln. Come out and support tennis, support the event and watch some of the very best tennis you can ask for.”

Tournament organizers are also looking for volunteers including drivers, credential checkers, ushers and ballpeople. Sign up to volunteer by clicking here. Purchase tickets for the Lincoln Challenger here.
