Lincoln’s Haley Waggoner competes in national adaptive tournament in Florida
Lincoln’s Haley Waggoner and her partner Kaitlin Roselius recently placed second at the 2023 Adaptive Tennis National Championships in Orlando last month. There were 25 athletes and their unified doubles partners who were invited based on previous tournaments.
“The experience was great playing at the national campus and competing with other high-level players,” Waggoner said. “It felt great getting second place because years ago I didn’t even place in the top three, and now putting in the work to get better paid off!”
This was the first time Roselius played with Waggoner in this type of setting, and said it was both a joy and a privilege to take part in the event. Roselius works at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln as the Director of Community Outreach & Evaluation.
“There are a few adaptive tournaments across the U.S. for high-performance athletes like Haley,” Roselius said. “Most of these adaptive tournaments offer singles and traditional doubles.”
A team from Iowa, another USTA Missouri Valley participant, placed first in the tournament. Waggoner’s next tournament is in Virginia at the beginning of 2024.
