Four USTA Nebraska League teams qualified to play in this year’s USTA League National Championship tournament that takes place at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

The four teams are:

40 & Over 4.5 Women, co-captained by Jennifer Allison and Donna Wyse

40 & Over 4.5 Men, captained by Daniel Sloboth

18 & Over 8.0 Mixed, captained by Carvie Erwin

18 & Over 9.0 Mixed, captained by Ron Betts

USTA.com spoke with team captains Jen Allison and Daniel Sloboth about their expectations for nationals.

Allison’s team competed in a local league of four teams before winning the USTA League Section Championship in Topeka, Kansas.

“It is always stressful being a captain, but it was definitely worthwhile in the end,” Allison said. She has played in USTA Leagues for over 20 years, and this is her first time qualifying for nationals on a 4.5 Women’s team. “My favorite memory from this season was watching my team come together in the finals to win the sectional title,” Allison said.

Daniel Sloboth’s team had just one other team to compete within the state throughout their local league play, but went 5-0 to win the Section Championship also held in Topeka.

“Our team was strong top to bottom, led by our top singles players who went undefeated at #1 and #2 singles,” Sloboth said. This was the first time that this group of men made it to nationals together, although some had qualified before in other divisions.

The National Championships have already concluded for this 40 & Over Men’s team as they finished 7th overall and were 13-1 on the season.

“My favorite memory from this season is playing with a great bunch of guys that competed very hard to get to nationals. Along the way, there were many great individual efforts but it was very much a team effort,” Daniel said.

USTA.com wishes good luck to all Nebraska league teams competing at Nationals.
