High school players in Nebraska will be able to take part in a mixed doubles event this summer at the 2021 Co-ed UNState event on Saturday, Aug. 8 at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln. Each team will consist of at least three boys and three girls, and more are recommended. Teams will play three mixed doubles matches per round. Match format will be dependent on the number of teams signed up. Players do not need to be from the same school.
“Mixed doubles, and especially mixed doubles team events are such a unique play opportunity,” said Talor Wain, Woods Tennis Center Head Pro. “While we love the idea of playing with students from your school, we don’t want to limit players where their school may not have the interest.
Each team will have a captain who will be in charge of the lineups and will be allowed to coach. Captains can be players, coaches, parents or former players. The tournament fee is $20 and includes a meal, balls, court time and awards. Entry deadline is July 25, 2021.
“We are really looking forward to the co-ed setup as we think it will be a new and exciting experience for everyone,” Wain added. “ We hope that we can get even more schools involved and create an atmosphere that rivals state tennis, but without quite as much pressure.”
