USTA Nebraska Honoring Coach Ray Ruybalid

USTA Nebraska | April 30, 2018

This past November, Nebraska lost an irreplaceable member of the tennis community, Ray Ruybalid. Since Ruybalid's passing, high school tennis teams have been honoring his legacy.

Ruybalid spent 25 years as the head tennis coach at Holdredge High School, starting the program from scratch. In 2004, he was inducted into the USTA Nebraska Hall of Fame and was honored for his dedication to the sport. He ran youth tennis camps and local tournaments in the summer, and was also involved in adult tournament in league play. He had an infamous drop shot, and infectious smile which allowed him to bond friendships across Nebraska.

Many teams have been finding ways to honor Ray’s memory this tennis season.  A number of shirts have been designed in his honor and many teams in central Nebraska have been honoring him and paying tribute throughout the spring season.
