Omaha Racquet Donation Opportunity
If you have any unused tennis racquets in good condition, you can donate them to high school players in the Omaha area. The Omaha Tennis Association started a racquet drive for local high school players who may not have the means to buy a new racquet.
“As a high school coach, I was aware of the need for racquets for our players, very few have their own and the ones the school provides are in pretty bad shape,” said Heather Blumel, who coaches at Omaha South Magnet School. “When speaking to other coaches I realized my players weren’t the only ones who needed racquets.”
Blumel and the Omaha Tennis Association started the racquet drive and got the word out to local players. So far more than 25 racquets have been collected. Blumel said they hope to receive a grant to help re-string and re-grip the racquets as well.
Drop-off sites for donated racquets are at Koch Tennis Center, Miracle Hills Golf & Tennis Club, Center Court and the Racquet Corner in Omaha. If you would like to donate or have additional questions, you can contact Blumel at hblumelusta@gmail.com or Lisa Thomas at lisathomasusta@icloud.com.
